TRENCH ROT

s/t 7-Inch Do Some Harm

Featuring members of just about every underground Southern California hardcore punk band from 2010 like Broken Needle, COP, Tipper's Gore, Neon Maniacs and many others, Trench Rot bring a volatile mix of "Feel The Darkness"-era Poison Idea and modern American D-beat spread over five tracks.

TRENCH ROT

Tyrant 7" Video Disease

Rejecting the more traditional D-beat approach, the band injects a huge amount of early USHC influence into their Discharge-tinged riffs, bringing to mind trailblazers such as the legendary Poison Idea. They are not simply paying homage though, they are jumping out from the pack of trendy D-beat and rehash HC to bring a record with an incredibly powerful sound and incredibly catchy songs. On this recording, they have stayed away from the "raw ponx" trend that is sweeping Los Angeles and instead opted for a brighter and cleaner recording to capture the power that these juggernauts have. Features members of Knifefight.

TRIPLE THREAT

Live At CBGB 7-Inch Livewire

Out of nowhere comes the first Livewire release in what feels like years. A TRIPLE THREAT live ep that must be rather limited, because it's already sold out from the label eventhough it was never available to wholesale customers. That, as well as the troubled release history is to blame for the unfortunately steep price on this. Get it here or from ebay, but I'm pretty sure that's it for options.

TROUBLED COAST

Awake And Empty LP Pure Noise

Troubled Coast got their start in the East Bay hardcore scene in the shadow of bands like Ceremony and AFI but have grown into something all their own. Since their start in '09, they have released a slew of 7"s and EPs and on their first full-length, "Awake And Empty," continue to bring a blend of heavy, almost doomy guitar, and drum-driven hardcore with raw intense vocals that blend in melodic hooks and groovy breakdowns bringing to mind Modern Life Is War and Have Heart. Vinyl version includes digital download. On colored vinyl.

TROUBLEMAKER

s/t 7-Inch Neutral Territory

Troublemaker is pissed. I'm talking really pissed. The thing is, although this style of music already has an angry demeanor, Troublemaker's vocals seal the deal. They remind me of Lights Out, but more miserable. The lyrics, with lines such as 'No one will ever fucking love me' and 'I can't fucking take all these dissapointed stares, all your judgement lays heavier than you'd like to think', radiate a hopeless and negative attitude. This stuff makes you grit your teeth. The music style doesn't scream originality, but Troublemaker manages to roll up properties from different sectors of hard music into a tightly packed burrito of rage. Intricate and interesting drum patterns also stand out in the recordings, mixing typical and simple hardcore portions with blast beats or even technical but not necessarily blazingly fast areas. It's fun to listen to. Ceremony fans take note.

TRUE COLORS

Focus On The Light LP Six Feet Under

Originally released in 2008 on both Powered Records and Six Feet Under, "Focus On The Light" was the first full length for Belgium's TRUE COLORS. It is now considered a classic of European hardcore as well as one of the all around great straight forward, straight edge records of the modern era. Another full length and three more eps followed before they officially disbanded in 2010 (and unofficially play here and there), but most still consider this their crowning achievement. SFU is happy to bring FOCUS ON THE LIGHT back into press for a new generation of hardcore kids the world over. On colored vinyl.

Jacksonville, FL's True Form is another one of Florida's new breed of powerful hardcore, blending metallic, '90s-hardcore buzz with a NYHC groove, somehow bringing to mind both "Best Wishes"-era Cro-Mags and Strife, with vocals very reminiscent of Tre from Hounds Of Hate.
