NEW GRANADA

s/t 7-Inch Lengua Armada

A good blend of traditional hardcore with some of the modern (not emo) hardcore sound. Choppy and erratic tempos, thick guitar, and urgent vocals. Melodic and with a definite DC influence (second generation of bands), this not your typical LA release, but I really like this a lot. Reminds me of HATED at times. Give this a try.

BACKSTABBERS INCORPORATED

Theory/ History 7-Inch Element

This New England based group will appeal to fans of Tragedy or early Rorschach with their aggressive blend of hardcore mixed with elements of thrash and grind. Raging, intelligent metal/ hardcore/ grind crossover from the northeast. BSI are inarguably New Englands most dangerous band. Drawing a line across the darkest chasms of hardcore and metal, this band stands on their own.

Eight song debut from this cali powerhouse. Negative and pissed, Cold Shoulder are not out to take prisoners. Blazing hardcore, lyrically covering the whole spectrum of hardcore topics. Black On Black comp. LP Initial

'A Tribute To BLACK FLAG' features a bunch of bands covering tunes from what is arguably one of the most influential punk bands ever. AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (Depression), COALESCE (Jealous Again), CONVERGE (Annihilate This Week), DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN (Depression I+II), HOPE CONSPIRACY (Nervous Breakdown), PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS (Police Story, Gimme Gimme Gimme) and PLAYING ENEMY (Six Pack) are some of the bands paying tribute. INFAMOUS, The/ LOOKS LIKE RAIN split

7-Inch Grave Mistake

It took them months to arrive, but the new (and probably last) LLR record is finally here. Wrapped in a wicked looking cover by Jason Powell, LLR deliver three hardcore anthems framed by samples from 'Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back', which is a plus in my book. They wouldn't need it, 'cause their side of the split definitely rocks. The INFAMOUS hold their own in the flip side with five songs of hardcore fury. Mosh and jump around to 'Dead Kids' and be happy that hardcore ist still alive.

DISASTER, The

With Years Left To Go 7-Inch Endwell

The debut that started it all. We've released their LP, so you know this has to be good. This sounds even more like later LIFETIME/ KID DYNAMITE. Eight songs that cover a variety of topics including 'Operation Rescue Is Going Straight To Hell', which is one of the best pro-choice songs I've ever heard and probably my favourite DISASTER track. This records fucking rules!

PROCEDURE, The

For Janus 7-Inch War Machine

Formed around Bill Henderson (of THURSDAY and PURPOSE fame) the debut release of The PROCEDURE mixes different styles to something new. The songs may conjure thoughts that range from the technicality of bands like SHAI HULUD and CAVE IN, the addictive sing alongs of bands like ENSIGN and HOPE CONSPIRACY, and the haunting melodies of bands like SENSEFIELD and Thursday. Limited to 500 copies only, you better act quick 'cause the label is already sold out.

PAYBACK

s/t 7-Inch The Big Hurt

What is is about the name Payback and hand drawn covers (the old Payback) or logos (the new Payback)? As tough and heavy as they sound, the label logo cracks me up! The cover sports some cool looking old school tattoo artwork (skulls, spiderwebs and a straight razor), the music is heavy hardcore with song titles like 'Death To The False' 'Pay With Your Life', you better not stand in their way! Mosh it up and sing along to 'Fuck Issues: 'I hate everything you stand for and I say fuck your issues and fuck you too'. Word up. Turn to the logo for comic relief.

MANDOWN

Quicker Than Poison 7-Inch Capsule

Capsule records... I've thought of this label as long gone, but apparently, it's still around. This Lansing, Michigan based hardcore quartet plow through songs with hyper-impatience that borders on a temper-tantrum. Seven stripped down numbers that will get you nostalgic for the days when bands wrote songs about kicking the crap out of people and drinking Coke. The could've spent more on the recording, but they've chosen colored vinyl instead. This grew on me.

HEARTWORK

s/t 7-Inch Cadmium Sick

Powerful hardcore in the vein of LIP CREAM. Perfectly executed, straightforward traditional japanese hardcore with some of the most amazing vocals ever! HEARTWORK just floored me as classic japanese hardcore cannot be played any better!!

WORN THIN

Remnants Of What Could Have Been 7-Inch Youngblood

Fast hardcore with a melodic feel similar to later era Turning Point. Five songs of pure emotion from this Virginia based band that plays a hardcore style with predominant vocals and an early '90s feel. Way better than their (already strong) debut on Malfunction, this is the record that made me sit up and actually notice WORN THIN. I might have some copies on limited colored vinyl...
