VIGILANTE

Quality Of Life LP Six Feet Under

Comprised of some notorious individuals from Sydney and beyond, Vigilante have injected the Australian hardcore punk scene with a much needed boost of classic New York hardcore inspired jams with a significant dose of social justice messaging. Reinforced by members who served time in hardcore bands dating back to the mid 90s including Urban Mayhem, Right Idea, The Deadwalk, Last Nerve, Bad Blood and Ill Brigade, Vigilante embody a once infamous Sydney hardcore style. Hard not heavy.
Vigilante's stubborn song-writing approach and attention to detail saw them return to record with Australian folk-rock musician Jonathan Boulet for their debut 12" EP "Quality Of Life". After sitting on a well received demo for two years, "Quality Of Life" has further developed their identity and exposed more influences, such as their re-recording of Altercation's "Vigilante Song". A tight approach to production and an attitude to match has helped create an urgent sense of social commentary few bands will approach.
In a time where conformity is dominating an arguably contradicting hardcore punk scene, "Quality Of Life" is full of personality, dynamic riffs and an honest perspective on social justice issues. Songs like "Search For Truth" and "Fear Of Change" showcase Vigilante's approach and interpretation of a classic sound of hardcore spawned from the mid 80s. A tried and tested formula that Vigilante embrace and believe because they do things their way.

VILE

Vile Says Fuck Off! 7" Radio Raheem

Vile were outsiders to an insular scene: kids from the Boston, MA, suburbs who decided to gain attention the easy way, by pissing people off. The three songs contained on this 7" were recorded during the "Solution" LP sessions: "Overload" being previously unreleased, and "Definitions" and "5 To 10" being alternate versions to the LP cuts. These tracks are simple, raw, energetic, and pissed-off hardcore songs made by alienated kids.

VILE GASH

Nightmare In A Damaged Brain LP Youth Attack

A masterpiece years in the making, this 12-track expurse of barbarity leaves the entire genre of hardcore in a smoldering crater. VILE GASH has achieved a fully-realized vision, delivering what can only be described as the end of music. Clocking in at just over 10 minutes, the album explodes in a barrage of hatred and disgust, each song showcasing a bitter contempt for life. Their blunt execution has intensified, becoming harsher and uglier, ranging in tempos the band has never before achieved with a perfect, grinding production that showcases the hideous nature of their riffs. This is a feel-bad experience like no other, and to listen is to feel yourself compelled to sickening violence. "Nightmare in a Damaged Brain" is the final command for existence, from which nothing shall follow.
Recorded by Adam Smith and Benjamin Holesapple at Musicol. Vocals recorded by Matt Russell at Club Rectum. Mixed by Will Killingsworth and Benjamin Holesapple. Mastered by Will Killingsworth.

VILE SPIRIT

Scorched Earth LP Quality Control

Scorched Earth marks the long awaited debut LP from the UK’s ultimate misfit squad, Vile Spirit. After well loved demo and promo tapes, Scorched Earth marks a major step up in terms of musical landscape and craft as members have sharpened their teeth touring Europe and being active members of the UK hardcore punk scene. Somehow they have managed to sew together influences such as United Mutation, Integrity and Black Metal into a noisy mass of hard as hell tunes with fuzzed out guitars burning your ear drums whilst being punched to death by relentlessly rolling drums excelling at unpredictable rhythmical directions. Meanwhile mid-tempo songs like Going Home march along, snarling in the darkness, creating an atmospheric backdrop for those who prefer to awaken at night. Vocalist Ben summons a cynical view of the world, conjuring tales of the survival of mankind and a contempt for the world.Bursting onto the UK hardcore punk scene three years ago the members have never ceased to play in and create numerous bands such as Gutter Knife, Saliva, and Chubby and the Gang. They originally formed part of the new generation of Brighton punks re-energizing the scene there alongside bands like State Funeral, Never and label mates Imposter, whilst members finished high school or started University. Joining the band on second guitar is Rory O’Neill, singer of Imposter, and responsible for the artwork on Scorched Earth.
Enjoy, and be damned upon the scorched Earth.

VILE SPIRIT

Demo CS Quality Control

Brighton in the UK, spiritual home of the Mods in the 60s, has exploded with hardcore punk energy and talent in the past two years, as a new generation of punks have started a multitude of bands championing a wide diversity of sounds. Part of this new squad is Vile Spirit, an apt name for a band who’s vocalist Ben is known for temporary possession with wild and unpredictable performances and a truly terrifying voice. A hardcore punk scene is only as good as it’s drummers in our humble opinion, and Joe’s precise and powerful thumping forms the solid backbone for Tallulah’s innovative guitar work best seen in the song L.O.S. Meanwhile Luke’s dreamy bass tone adds an element of early UK goth punk whilst as a whole fans of United Mutation can rejoice!

Criminal Record 2x7-Inch Grave Mistake

The UK's Violent Arrest return with 12 brand new raging hardcore blasts on two 45 RPM EPs. Refusing to let up one bit from their first two releases on Deranged, V.A. continues to pummel you from start to finish with their savage brand of early US-by-the-way-of-UK hardcore. If spending the last two decades in classic UK bands like Heresy, Ripcord, Dumbstruck and Spite (to name a few) wasn't testament enough to these lads' abilities, 'Criminal Record' proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that these HC vets can still rip it up with the best of them.

VIOLENT FUTURE

s/t 7" Painkiller

One of our favorite demos of the year is now as 45rpm 7" on PKR. Carrying on the traditions of previous Toronto acts Urban Blight and Bad Choice (of which they share personnel), Violent Future arrive with their first recording -- originally a self released cassette -- of thuggishly played, classically trained HARDcore. Six stompers of futuretro crunch towing the same 4-Skins w/ Hodges/YDI/Iron Cross/Chaos UK buffet their previous bands were known for, but with the most ignorant drumming you've yet laid ears on. Recording by some famous indie rock dude. Limited to 500 copies.

VIOLENT MINDS

Eyes Of Death LP Deranged

Re-press of the glorious hardcore classic album "Eyes Of Death" by Violent Minds, remastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege with two bonus tracks. The repress also includes new art from Raf The Might/Too Many Skulls. For the uninitiated, Violent Minds was/is Zach Amsters who temporarily relocated to Toronto to join No Warning in the early 2000s. They wrote two incredible 7"s ("s/t" and "Riot") and then, in 2007, this monster album was recorded along with a few Philadelphia locals. Fast forward to 2012, Zach assembles a different crew in Boston and records a handful of new tracks with Chris Cory at the Paincave studio. This re-press includes two tracks ("Prison Planet" and "False Prophets") from this 2012 session. Features members of No Warning, Fucked Up, Boston Strangler, Mind Eraser, No Tolerance, Shark Attack and The Rival Mob. LP includes digital download.

City Streets LP Painkiller

One-man army Tom Pimlott arrives direct from Liverpool, England with an LP that splits the difference between early '80s US and UK hardcore with the kind of seamlessness and taste that escapes most bands. Whereas the original X-Claim crew took the British hardcore of the day and twisted it to fit their post-Minor Threat, townie world view, Violent Reaction takes the X-Claim sound and injects a tasteful dash of 1982-style British hardcore. Now available again on vinyl.

The only difference with this version is the sleeve has a satin finish rather than a lacquer one. Those of you that love the new LP on Revelation will not be disappointed, as this contains a walk down memory lane, before there were two guitarists, with a sound thats more akin to the harder stuff on the new LP.
